Kaj Gottlob (1887–1976) / A. J. Iversen (1888–1979): Mahogany Veneered Dressing Cabinet, Denmark, Early 20th Century
A refined dressing cabinet designed by Kaj Gottlob, one of Denmark’s leading architects and designers of the early 20th century, and executed by master cabinetmaker A. J. Iversen, renowned for his meticulous craftsmanship. The cabinet is constructed in veneered mahogany with a profiled top and features two cabinet doors that open to reveal shelves attached to the back. A metal plaque from A. J. Iversen is mounted on the back of the right door, confirming its provenance.

Condition: Excellent vintage condition. Veneer is intact and original, showing minimal signs of age consistent with careful use.
Kaj Gottlob (1887–1976) was a Danish architect and designer who played a pivotal role in the development of Danish Art Deco and Functionalism. After graduating from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1914, he worked under renowned architect Hack Kampmann and later became a professor at the Academy in 1924. In 1936, he was appointed Royal Building Inspector.
Gottlob’s architectural works include significant buildings in Copenhagen, such as Knippelsbro and Langebro, which are exemplary of 1930s modernism in Denmark. His designs often featured clean lines, functional layouts, and a harmonious blend of form and function.
As a designer, Gottlob contributed to the Danish pavilion at the 1925 World Exhibition in Paris, showcasing his furniture designs crafted by A. J. Iversen. His furniture pieces, characterized by their elegant proportions and refined details, are celebrated for their craftsmanship and design integrity.
A. J. Iversen (1888–1979) was a Danish master cabinetmaker known for his exceptional skill and attention to detail. He collaborated closely with leading Danish designers, including Kaj Gottlob, to produce furniture that exemplified the highest standards of craftsmanship. Iversen’s work is characterized by its precision, quality materials, and timeless design.
This cabinet exemplifies the functional elegance and restrained modernist aesthetic for which Kaj Gottlob is celebrated, paired with the exceptional joinery and finishing of A. J. Iversen.
