About the Item

This towering and visually arresting antique wooden flat file cabinet was likely used in a drafting office, print shop, or architectural firm. With its 22 large flat drawers, this piece would have originally stored blueprints, maps, lithographs, or oversized documents. The cabinet is constructed from solid oak and features an extraordinary tiger oak grain pattern prominently showcased across the drawer fronts. This distinctive cut of oak, known for its bold, striped figure, adds rich texture and movement to the piece, elevating it well beyond the typical utility cabinet. Each drawer is removable and built with traditional dovetail joinery, speaking to the care and durability of its original construction. The drawers are equipped with dual carved wooden pulls, horizontally aligned for a sleek and consistent appearance, and include brass nameplate holders. A number tag (“62”) is still affixed to the top of the cabinet. Despite its age, the cabinet remains structurally solid and functional. It displays minor signs of wear—such as small surface scuffs and scratches—that are consistent with long-term use and only serve to enhance its authentic patina. Features: • 22 large flat file drawers, ideal for artwork, prints, maps, textiles, or large documents • Solid oak construction with pronounced tiger oak grain • Dovetailed drawer construction for strength and longevity • Brass label holders and original wood pulls on each drawer • Industrial/institutional tag number “62” affixed at the top Dimensions: • Overall Cabinet: 47” W x 36” D x 92.5” H • Interior Drawer Dimensions (each): 41” W x 31” D x 2.75” H
