About the Item

An extraordinary example of French Renaissance Revival craftsmanship, this monumental cabinet is richly executed in carved walnut and marquetry, with inset bronze relief plaques depicting classical allegories of the arts — including “La Peinture” (Painting) and “L’Enseigne” (Engraving). The structure is architectonic, composed with tiered sections and a boldly sculpted pediment, crowned by a central carved mascaron and scrolling crestwork. Each element showcases the opulent vocabulary of the late 19th century — acanthus scrolls, rosettes, and fluted columns — harmoniously blended with the precision of master French cabinetmaking. The upper stage features a projecting drawer and marble top, flanked by two inset side compartments with molded galleries. The lower case is defined by paneled doors enclosing ample storage and fitted interior shelving, with the central door concealing a sliding pull-out tray adorned with a further bronze plaque. The entire composition rests on a sturdy molded plinth base. Dimensions: 75” high × 69” wide × 34” deep
