About the Item

This is a late 19th-century Victorian hutch cabinet, executed in richly figured hardwood with extensive hand-carved detailing throughout. The upper section is framed by spiral-turned columns supporting a heavily molded cornice and an ornate crest, carved with scrolling foliage and classical motifs. The paneled back features a central carved medallion, flanked by open display shelves with turned gallery rails—designed to elevate and frame decorative objects rather than conceal them. The lower case is equally robust, fitted with drawers and paneled cabinet doors adorned with deep relief carvings and period hardware. A marble work surface spans the center, providing a durable serving or display area while visually grounding the piece. Turned legs and a full base shelf reinforce the cabinet’s architectural presence and vertical emphasis. The counter surface of this hutch cabinet features a brilliant slab of Rouge de Rance marble, quarried in Belgium. Everything about this hutch reflects High Victorian craftsmanship: symmetry, ornament, and material richness working together to create a statement piece intended for formal dining rooms or parlors. It was built to impress, using skilled carving and solid construction rather than applied decoration or veneer shortcuts. A commanding example of Victorian furniture—ornate, substantial, and unapologetically decorative, with craftsmanship meant to be seen and felt. 48.5" W x 17.75" D x 100" H
