About the Item
This elegant Louis XVI–style bureau cabinet dates from the Napoleon III period, late 19th century, and exemplifies the refined craftsmanship of the great Parisian ébénistes. Crafted in richly figured mahogany, the piece is beautifully appointed with finely chased and gilded bronze mounts of exceptional quality. Designed as an all-sided meuble d’appui, it can be placed at the end of a desk or used as a versatile accent cabinet in a variety of interiors.
At the very top, the cabinet features two side-by-side pull-out drawers. Directly below them is a compartment enclosed by sliding tambour doors. The lower section remains unchanged and opens with a single door, offering additional enclosed storage. The top is fitted with a delicate gilded bronze gallery, and each panel is framed with elegant gilt-bronze moldings. Decorative garlands and finely cast corner mounts complete the harmonious ornamentation.
This cabinet is both a functional furnishing and a distinguished decorative statement.
