MARCONI COMPANY (THE VOICE OF THE FATHER, COLUMBIA and MARCONIPHONE) Model: Marconi 1562 A piece of Italian Navy and Merchant Marine history... oak cabinet and refined electronics for a radio that has been able to accompany sailors in the golden age of the Modern Navy. Completing the system is the precious lacquered Steel turntable with all-Bakelite arm. In the early days of the business, the Marconi Company counted among its first "institutional" customers the Merchant Navy and the Military to which the manufactured rice-transmission equipment was leased ("modern leasing") including operating personnel for the civilian sector only. This involved having training schools allocated at Officine Marconi, as in Genoa. In 1928 His Master's Voice (USA), known in Italy as "La Voce del Padrone" (factories in Milan) and producing gramophones and records, realized that radio would dangerously alter the size of its target market. He decided to purchase England's Marconiphone in order to quickly supplement the range of products to be offered, including radio sets. Of course, the larger and more powerful company of the two was His Master's Voice, which imposed its production and design standards, which were very much oriented toward standardization in series. In addition, the production of a model could be produced in one nation and marketed anywhere (His Master's Voice, for example, controlled the Pathé brand in France). In Italy, production also included the Columbia brand. Civilian production activity ceased, in Italy, in the late 1960s.
