A Northern Italian Polychrome Pine Prie-Dieu Circa 1784
The prie-dieu or inginocchitorio with a projecting knee rest above a drawer with a turned wooden handle, rising to a wupboard with a large central brass handle beneath a drawer with a further wooden handle and flanked by vertical moulded panelling, surmounted by an angled armrest opening to a further storage section. Richly ornamented overall with polychrome rinceaux, shields and stellate designs rising to a Christogram all on a black ground, inscribed to the front "OR 1784 DM", having been dedicated oratio domini in 1784.
