About the Item

Simply stunning, ornate, black lacquer cabinet from The Stately Homes Collection by Baker Furniture. It features a stunning case that was elaborately decorated (painted) in a raised gilt and ochre landscape design. It is rumored that the case was hand painted by a Hungarian artist and it took months for a single piece to be finished. An astonishing work of craftsmanship. It has finely cast brass mounts and hinges finished in dark antique bronze. When opened, it exposes black lacquer interior doors beautifully hand-painted in a similar manner and fitted with one shallow long drawer and above it a shelf/surface that pulls out to provide a bar surface or desk (although given the height it appears it was intended to be used as a bar - that surface has a black laminate top). The back wall of the interior is mirrored and has two adjustable glass shelves. The interior is also lit. The chest rests on a Chinese Chippendale square chamfered legs that feature pierced fretwork angle brackets where the legs meet the cabinet. When the cabinet was made, it cost approximately $50,000 but it is no longer in production. That would translate to roughly a $175,000 today. It was part of Baker's Stately Homes Collector's Edition. This particular piece is fashioned after a significant English antique circa 1760. In excellent condition given the age of the piece. This is a showpiece that will immediately elevate any interior.

Early 18th Century Japanned Double Corner Cabinet
Located in Lymington, GB
A rare chinoiserie standing double corner cabinet, or cupboard. English, George I-period, ca 1720. Often erroneously referred to as lacquer work, this is japanned. Beautifully decorated with idyllic scenes of rockwork, pagodas, people, trees, birds, water, with bridges and a boat. This is a lovely and very useful addition to a room - where corners can present furnishing dilemmas - and this is a chic antique drinks cabinet. These have always been very hard to find, as opposed to the more usual Georgian hanging corner cupboards...
