About the Item

Painted cabinets were a traditional element of Swedish country homes, this one is particularly lovely as it still maintains the original hand-painted finish with floral bouquet and faux wood painted background which was the folk art style of the era. The monogram of EK and date of 1798 indicate it was likely a wedding present. Unique to this is the narrow depth of only 15.25", elongated body, bonnet/crown and carved feet. It is perfectly balanced with the upper cabinet with two doors over one long lower drawer. Enlarge the photos to appreciate the hand-painted flowers against the teal blue background of the doors and remaining areas painted with a faux wood finish. This cupboard has been restored so it is strong, stable and ready for use. All knicks, scratches, age-related separation of wood are a reflection of generations of use and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this lovely cabinet. The left door can be secured in place by an inner latch, the lock no longer functions so key is used as a "pull" only. A small "snap" fixture seen in upper right holds door in place. Please refer to professional photos for clear understanding of color, condition and details; photo lighting, individual monitor display and home lighting may all impact how item is viewed.
