About the Item
A highly decorative bridal cabinet dating from 1764. The cabinet retains its original paint and has a very rustic appearance. This example is decorated with panels and floral paintings; the paint is quite worn, and some of the moldings have been replaced. All in all, it shows signs of wear that are certainly noticeable in a piece of furniture that is 261 years old. The cabinet has a well-functioning lock with key and is equipped with a shelf and coat hooks on the inside. More shelves can easily be added if desired. In the past, it was customary to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a state room on the farm, which was only rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history. This example comes from southern Germany (Franconia).
