About the Item
An extraordinary antique pine bridal cabinet dating from around 1825. This cabinet is simply designed but beautifully painted in a fresh blue with floral decorations in the panels. The light blue paint has worn beautifully over the years, giving it a distinctive look. Several restorations were carried out at some point; for example, the top molding of the crest and the legs were replaced. These have now been professionally repainted. The interior largely retains its original features, with shelves, a drawer, coat hooks, and a later added rod. The cabinet still has its original working lock with key and can be transported in two pieces if desired. It was once customary to give bridal furniture like this to the couple at a wedding. These pieces were later placed in a state room on the farm, rarely used for distinguished guests or special occasions. A beautiful and decorative piece of history. This example originates from southern Germany (Franconia).
