About the Item

Decorate an entryway, library, or study with this elegant pair of antique “confituriers” (French for jelly cabinets). Crafted in Brittany, France circa 1870, each cabinet is built from a mix of solid oak and chestnut and stands on bun feet over a molded plinth base. Each piece features a single door adorned with finely hand-carved rural Breton scenes in high relief and framed by intricate foliate motifs; one panel depicts a couple dancing to the sound of a bagpipe player, while the other shows two villagers conversing in traditional attire. Above, a single drawer is embellished with circular rosette medallions beneath a molded rectangular top with subtle edge detail. The side panels are recessed, and the door corners are further carved with trailing leaf decoration, adding a sense of depth and craftsmanship. Inside, each cabinet reveals an adjustable shelf offering practical storage. The Louis XIII–style buffets are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, displaying a beautiful bleached patina that enhances the warmth of the natural wood grain.
