About the Item
A unique and most elegant French mid 19th century Louis XVI st. Mahogany, Moucheté Mahogany, ormolu, and leather cartonnier cabinet. The one door twelve drawer cabinet is raised by lovely topie shaped feet with most decorative spiral fluted designs below the straight apron with a mottled border and beaded ormolu band. At the center is a single door with a beautiful bottom recessed panel below the mesh front each framed within a richly chased wrap around Coeur de Rai ormolu band and which opens to reveal two shelves. Leading up each side are six drawers each retaining their original gold tooled leather fronts and an exceptional elegantly curved ormolu pull with foliate rosettes. Each side displays recessed panels showcasing the beautiful Moucheté Mahogany grain framed within an additional most elegant Coeur de Rai designed wrap around ormolu band. The lightly curved top crown is adorned with richly chased acanthus leaf corner mounts and beaded fillets all below the French polished top framed within a pierced wrap around ormolu gallery. All original gilt throughout.
