About the Item

This is the Swedish 1940s handcrafted pine cabinet by Göran Malmvall for Karl Andersson Söner. It comes in a beautifully patinated pine, with marks and traces that testify to age and use. The doors are crafted with a relief design in the form of curved pine boards. The cabinet is made of solid Swedish pine and stands on a connected leg frame, giving it a stable construction well-suited for continued, everyday use. The lock works and one key is included. ____________________ As early as 1898, the company Karl Andersson Söner was founded by Karl Andersson in the village of Berghem, Skärstad parish. Nearly fifty years later, in 1944, in the town of Huskvarna, Karl Andersson together with four of his sons established the furniture factory Aktiebolaget Karl Andersson Söner. Karl and his wife Ida raised twelve children – six daughters and six sons including a foster son. Göran Malmvall (1917–2001), the youngest son, proved to have a remarkable talent for craftsmanship and design, and went on to create most of the company’s furniture collections. He began working at Karl Andersson Söner at an early age and was trained as a furniture designer by Carl Malmsten. He remained active in the company until 1982. In the 1940s he designed several pieces of pine furniture – today highly sought after and often referred to as the “sports cabin” pieces. Göran Malmvall is also the designer behind the well-known Swedish furniture series Svensk Fur, KA 73, and Svitjod.
