About the Item

A Stunning and Rare 19th Century Handcrafted Tooled Brown Leather Italian Renaissance Design Fitted Writing Cabinet On Original Plinth Featuring fourteen hand-painted portraits (after) Murillo, depicting day to day life. The interior of the two door cabinet comprises of six fitted drawers with dovetail joints finished with a contrasting racing green leather tooled front. Underneath the six drawers there's a slide-out writing surface which showcases the contrasting brown leather ink blotter, inkwell and notepad. The top of the desk sits on four substantial panelled legs with flat incurving stretchers, and can be used with or without the matching leather covered stand. We believe the stand is the same tooled design as the cabinet, therefore we are selling with even though work might have to be done as in original condition. The top of the cabinet dome has three hidden pop up drawers which is a fun feature to keep trinkets or keepsakes. The item as a whole is beautifully decorated with gold floral decorations, and has lots of embossed floral and decorative patterns too. This writing cabinet is a real feast for the eyes, from every angle, there is always something new to focus your eyes. . It really has been made to enjoy visually and practically. It would be well suited to a modern open plan interior wanting a sumptuous antique central piece, just as much as a home which already houses lots of decorative heritage pieces. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor fading. Top and base are both structurally sound. Stand comes in original condition some stains to leather etc. Aim was to keep both pieces together with same original leather tooling.
