About the Item

An extremely rare pair of finely figured, mahogany pier cabinets or bookcases in the manner of Edwards and Roberts. This exceptional pair are finely carved with gorgeously rich patination and feature crossbanded panels, delicate line inlay and exquisite inlaid marquetry Neoclassical motif detail throughout. The upper section with moulded broken swan neck pediment with stunningly carved flowerheads and inlaid with gorgeously detailed scrolling foliate, swags of bellhusks, ribbon and flowerhead detail above two inlaid, panelled glazed doors opening to a mirror backed glass shelved interior. The lower section with moulded line inlaid top above marquetry inlaid two drawer frieze with decorative brass pulls and fabulous urn, bellhusks and ribbon motifs, supported on elegant, slender and tapering square leg, terminating on spade foot.
