About the Item
Exceptional Spanish cabinet with a wooden frame and gilded and silver-plated embossed leatherwork, decorated with flowers and birds. Spanish craftsmanship, circa 1920-30, Art Nouveau style and period.
We present a refined cabinet, embellished with leather worked using the artistic technique known as embossed leatherwork, and decorated with polychrome, gilded, and silvered flowers and birds.
The front is divided into two sections at the top and a hinged door at the bottom. With a square profile, it expresses its Art Nouveau style in an exquisite undulating skirt that adds aesthetic movement and an elegant visual force, defining the piece with extraordinary character and craftsmanship.
The cabinet rests on a carved wooden support configured with four curvilinear columns joined by a carved molding, enhancing and presenting the cabinet as a unique piece.
This support is a later addition.
Embroidered Leatherwork Technique:
This is an artistic and artisanal technique for working with leather. Its origins lie in Arab culture and it developed in Spain, especially in Cordoba, Andalusia, where the Arabs settled for many years.
It can be applied to cordovan leather or sheepskin. Gilding, silvering, and polychrome techniques were applied to the already prepared leather.
