Spanish vargueño, circa 1700
A vargueño (also known as a bargueño) is a traditional Spanish piece of furniture from the Renaissance. It is a writing cabinet, often with a folding front flap that serves as a writing desk. Inside, there are often many small drawers and compartments.
This example dates from around 1700.
It is in exceptionally beautiful and pristine condition. Almost entirely original. Only a few minor wood restorations here and there.
Very beautiful original back panel.
The piece is made of solid walnut. Beautiful patina and colour. The piece stands on a later (mid-20th century) custom-made metal base.
