About the Item

A Gustavian style painted cabinet made in Sweden, circa 1860. This buffet-over-chest has its original, dry scraped painted finish on its exterior in tactile layers of blue like verdigris. The cabinet doors open to reveal an unpainted interior of natural pine with three fixed shelves at 13” deep. The top shelf is shaped to a gentle scallop edge and notched to hang your everyday spoons. There is one key for the working lock. Below are four drawers: two shallow drawers across the top over two rather deep drawers below. All are easy to open by patinated brass handles and escutcheons expressing Rococo tastes for the curvilinear and stylized.
