About the Item

A stunning and most impressive true pair of French 19th century Napoleon III period Ebony, Brass, Ormolu and white Carrara marble Boulle cabinets, attributed to Befort Jeune. Each truly beautiful rectangular single door cabinet is supported on topie shaped Ebony feet with palmette designed top caps. Above the stepped front apron with its Brass inlaid panels is the finely detailed central door which is flanked on either side by columns displaying Ormolu dolphin plinths and Ormolu Ionic top capitals. The protruding door showcases palmette designs in each corner, a Coeur-de-Rai patterned outer band, and lovely scrolling Brass inlaid foliate decorations that surround the mottled edge oval medallion of a woman and child topped by a flowing bowed ribbon. The door opens to display its original top to bottom lock revealing two polished and wonderfully finished shelves with Ebony edges. Both sides display Brass inlaid bands around the edges, rosettes in each corner, and a charming reserve of a decorated maiden with her scrolling attire and palmette crown atop. The top section of the cabinet showcases a central panel of Brass inlaid scrolling foliate designs which are flanked on each side by woven patterns accented by rosettes and acanthus leaves. These intricate woven patterns repeat on each side as well. The mottled rectangular white Carrara marble top is fitted within a reeded Ormolu band.
