About the Item
Elaborately decorated casket in excellent condition:
Black-stained wooden body in the shape of a shrine with a stepped structure on a rectangular base, a recessed plinth area above the foot section with a drawer running across the entire width and depth, above which is a stepped box element with two hinged doors at the front, flanked at the corners by four gilded bronze caryatids, inside the box are six drawers, a curved stepped roof structure crowned by a small rectangular casket with a sliding lid.
All surfaces are covered with plaques of various sizes and shapes with the finest coloured enamel painting, including the top compartment and doors on the inside, as well as the visible sides of the hidden drawers.
Depictions of mythological scenes, arabesque-shaped fittings between and around the plaques, and leaf overlays, the plaques of the inner drawers framed by brass cords.
All fittings made of brass and gilded bronze.
Excellent and detailed quality of workmanship, typical of Viennese enamel art.
