About the Item
striking free-standing wardrobe designed by Willy van der Meeren for Tubax in 1952. An emblematic piece of Belgian Mid-Century design, this cabinet showcases van der Meeren's functionalist principles, blending industrial materials with a thoughtful, user-centric approach. The wardrobe’s strong architectural lines are softened by its distinctive two-toned doors in light and royal blue, making it a compelling storage solution with significant design presence.
Constructed with a black enameled metal frame, the wardrobe features wood-paneled sides riveted directly to the structure. The original enameled metal doors are accented by elongated, tapered solid wood pulls that add an organic touch to the composition. The interior is intelligently divided into two 15.5” sections to maximize utility; one side is equipped with a clothing bar for hanging garments, while the other contains a series of shelves for folded items.
This piece remains in original condition, exhibiting visible wear such as scratches, enamel loss, and possible chipping or denting. This character is consistent with its age and history, reflecting a well-used and appreciated piece of design. Other color variations are available and listed separately. Other colorways available (LU922446546502
LU922446545382) and listed separately.
