This mid tall size, Urushi lacquered Tansu chest of drawers is a product of Meiji era (circa 1860s - 1910s) , estimate from the style
conditions.
Made of quality Sugi Cedar, sturdy enough for actual use, also can put something heavy on top.
Urushi lacquer with dark reddish hue comes from the layers of Urushi lacquer, persimmon tannin (kakishibu) , red ochre (bengala)
burnt pine ink.
Having good storage capacity with 6 wide drawers. Every drawers open
close smoothly. Original antique iron drawer handles are attached.
Made with traditional wood joinery without metal fastener.
