About the Item
A fine 18th century Dunlap School two part highboy in birch, with molded cornice surmounting an upper case with three fitted drawers, a central drawer with a carved radial fan decoration, over four graduated drawers, over a lower case with three graduated long drawers, the lower of which repeating the center radial fan decoration on the faux drawer front, all with replaced knobs and dovetailed construction, over a scalloped apron, supported by four short cabriole legs terminating with ball and claw feet. The legs were purportedly shortened by Amos Dodge of Sanbornton, NH in the mid 19th century to fit the piece in his home. The highboy is in very good overall condition, with some minor cornice imperfections, losses, shrinkage cracks, and restorations, with minor wear commensurate with age and use.
