About the Item

A French Rococo period painted commode from the 18th century. This antique chest from France has a faux-marbled and serpentine-fronted top, with case below continuing the design downward, and housing three dove-tailed, full-sized drawers. Drawer fronts are decorated with cartouche shaped panels and fitted with Rococo hardware. The apron is scalloped on three sides, and this piece is raised on petite cabriole legs. The finish is likely not original, but early (old) with the hand-painted green faux marbling at top and the unusual and unique green coloring about the body. There is an old patina which is a lovely reflection of the centuries old age and use. This 18th century French Rococo commode is an attractive case-piece which could easily beautify just about any room of the house.
