About the Item

Empire chest of drawers hand-made in France in the early 1800s using oak and decorated with mahogany veneer. The chest of drawers has been bleached and shows gorgeous striations of grey, white and pink given by the different tannins in the grain of the mahogany. The chest of drawers shows four inlay drawers all with beautiful hand-made dovetail joints. The overall lines of the chest of drawers are very straight, as a matter of fact, the columns typical of the empire style are flat instead of rounded, giving it a more linear and modern appearance. The hardware and hand-chiseled marble are original, as well as the super cool lion paw feet. The drawers all work well and this is a chest that can be used daily. The general lines of the piece, its overall proportions and the striking coloration make this a one-of-a-kind piece, that has simultaneously a modern as well as traditional feel. This is a piece of furniture that can work well in a bedroom as well as an office or entryway.
