About the Item

Neoclassical commode / chest of drawers hand-made in Italy in the late 1700s using cherry and decorated with cross-banded walnut veneer. The commode features three inset drawers with beautiful, hand-made dovetail joints. The drawer fronts are all decorated with inlaid veneer and the pattern is repeated on the top as well as the sides. The drawers are large and work well, therefore this chest can be used on a daily basis. The chest follows the typical lines of the neoclassical style, with straight edges and long, tapered legs. The hardware is not original, but appropriate to the style. Overall this is a beautiful, large commode that, despite its size, looks delicate and elegant. The inlay is done masterfully and provides a lot of depth and decoration to the piece. Because of its lines this commode will look great in a bedroom, but also entryway or living room.
