About the Item

Neoclassical commode hand-crafted in central Italy in the late 1700s using cherry and decorated with walnut and cherry veneer. The chest follows the typical straight lines of the style and features three overlay drawers, all with beautiful, large, hand-made dovetail joints. The drawer fronts are decorated with cherry veneer arranged in a herring bone pattern starting from the middle of the drawer, giving a beautiful geometrical effect. Along the edge of the drawer fronts we find a triple lined band of walnut and ebonized wood inlay. The pattern of inlay is used throughout the chest to decorate also the sides and the top. At the center of each decorated panel we also find a double rhombus, following the oblique pattern of the cherry veneer and giving the piece a beautiful balance as well as decoration. Overall this is a beautifully-made chest that is still fully functional despite its years. Its elegant and timeless lines make this a piece that will complement many different styles already present in a room regardless of their age.
