About the Item
Louis XVI chest of drawers hand-made in Italy in the mid 1700s using walnut. The chest was made in the Piemonte region of Italy, hence the rather large size compared to a French Louis XVI. The top is still the original grey marble, with hand-chiseled back, and shows some minor chips (pictured). The dresser features three inset drawers decorated with flat molding. On the top drawer front the molding is arranged to make it look like there are three drawers. All drawers show beautiful, hand-made dovetail joints.
On all corners the chest features hand-carved fluted round columns, that end in hand-turned feet. The brass pulls are not original, but fit well with the style.
Overall this is a gorgeous, large commode with beautiful proportions and patina. The drawers are large and work well, making this a perfect piece for a room where one needs storage as well as a touch of warmth.
