About the Item

Louis XV commode made in France in the mid 1700s using oak and pegged construction. The chest features three overlay large drawers decorated on the front with raised, symmetrical hand carvings. The top is made of three boards with rounded edges and serpentine front, nailed to the case. The back and the sides show chamfered boards framed in molding. The apron of the commode follows a serpentine pattern highlighted by hand carved molding, and the legs (still original) show the typical Louis XV cabriole shape. Although there are many Louis XV commodes in the world, this is a unique piece. The paint is a beautiful light cream color with grey highlights, with fine crackling which adds depth to the piece. The light color gives this rather large piece a light appearance and make it a perfect commode for whoever is looking for both a storage and decorative piece.
