A nicely proportioned 19th century French Louis XV style bombe commode, featuring elegantly curved front and sides embellished with marquetry inlay and ormolu bronze fittings. Topped with a single marble slab, it has two spacious drawers making it a practical and decorative storage piece.
The lighter and more graceful lines and motifs of the Louis XV style are in direct contrast with the prior heaviness, masculinity and "over-opulence" of Louis XIV style. This particular commode, though no doubt "fancy French" at first glance, is a more subtle nod to the past - it could easily act as a beautiful accent piece in a clean and modern space, its warm wood tones and sensuous curves set amongst monochromatic walls and contemporary art.
