This truly exquisite early Viennese Biedermeier cherrywood commode, crafted circa 1825, is an outstanding example of refined proportions, rare design, and exceptional craftsmanship that define the Biedermeier period.
Viennese Biedermeier furniture is renowned for its elegant simplicity, architectural balance, and timeless aesthetic—qualities that continue to influence modern design to this day. Cherrywood Biedermeier pieces are exceptionally rare, representing only approximately 10% of all Biedermeier furniture produced, making this commode a particularly sought-after collector’s piece.
The commode features beautifully figured, book-matched cherry veneer with a warm, light amber tone and a rich 200-year-old patina. Elegant ebonized columns accentuate the design and add striking contrast, while the piece rests on graceful, high block legs, lending it an impressive sense of lightness and sophistication. The original brass hardware and locks have been carefully preserved.
This commode is in very good condition and has been professionally restored in our Vienna workshop, using traditional, original Biedermeier-era methods. It retains its authentic character while presenting beautifully for today’s interiors. The surface is finished with a traditional French polish, enhancing the depth and natural beauty of the cherrywood.
