About the Item
An exceptional early 19th-century French carved and inlaid kingwood Louis XV-style three-drawer bombé commode with finely detailed cast bronze ormolu mounts and a beautifully figured cream-colored marble top.
This item was imported by a family friend's mother who worked at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C. in the 1950s-1960s. It belonged to a prominent Parisian family with ties to the royal court. The marble top is exceptional, and it is worth noting the extreme thickness of the slab, which is out ot the ordinary. The cabinet has been well cared for, spending the last 80 years within one family. This commode is handsome and well executed in construction. This handsome commode would make a fabulous centerpiece but is also sturdy enough for daily use. Please contact me with questions.
