About the Item
Neoclassical commode hand-made in central Italy in the early 1800s using elm wood and decorated with book-matched elm wood veneer. The chest has extremely straight lines and, apart from the veneer, has no other decorations. The three drawers are inset and show beautiful hand-made dovetail joints. The commode still sits on its original tapered feet, however, the escutcheons have been replaced. The sides are flat and covered with gorgeous book-matched veneer, just line the top and the top edge.
Overall this is a gorgeous commode, with great proportions and beautiful patina. The drawers are spacious, making this both a practical as well as very decorative piece. The light color of the wood and the straight lines will make it blend well with both antique as well as modern or contemporary furniture.
