About the Item

19th Century Original Red-Painted Danish Pine Chest of Five Drawers 19th-century pine chest of five drawers retaining its original brick-red painted finish with black accents. Decorative hand-painted motifs include birds, flowers, and additional ornamentation across the drawer fronts, sides, and skirt. A carved dentil and scalloped molding runs along the top, adding architectural detail to the form. Age-related plank separation is visible along the top, sides, and drawer bottoms, consistent with early pine construction. The left side of the bottom drawer has a divider to separate items stored there. Skeleton keys are included and used as pulls for the drawers; the locks no longer function. Originally constructed in two sections, the chest is now fixed as a single unit; buyers should ensure adequate access for installation. Restored, strong, and stable, this highly decorative chest is ready for use and stands as a rare example of original painted Scandinavian furniture from the period. Signs of historic use include surface wear, scratches, occasional gouges, and traces of old wormhole activity that contribute to the piece’s authenticity.
