About the Item

Scandinavian pair of painted pine commodes, circa 1870. Stunning pair of Swedish chests, very much in the gustavian taste. Generous proportions allow elegance and maximum storage around the home. Rectangular top with canted corners, further embellished with a stepped moulded edge around the top surface. Shallow top drawer with inset fielded panels, with a further 2 deep drawers below. Scraped back paint with later paint applied over the top, which has now become faded, even wearing back to the bare pine grain in places. Each standing on 4 short tapered legs. Later ornate brass handles fitted. Obvious minor surface marks to woodwork and fading/losses to paintwork. Strong and sturdy, ready for everyday use.
