About the Item

It is the original stone top that makes this small chest of three drawers a special find while the serpentine front adds intrigue as well. Please enlarge photos of the top to appreciate the matrix of the dusky lavender stone unique to eastern Sweden. Fluted carving along the side columns and tapered fluted front feet, one key is used to unlock and as pulls for the drawers. The (newer) professionally applied black painted finish is lightly distressed to fit the age and grace of the oak chest. Drawer fronts are made of oak, sides and bottoms made from pine which was a tradition way to craft these chests. Restored, the drawers function and the case is sturdy - ready to be used and enjoyed as a chest, nightstand or even side table. All scratches(see drawer fronts), cracks(see sides), nicks, and aged separation (seen in all of the drawer bottoms as cracks) are commensurate with age and do not detract from the beauty nor function of this lovely small chest of three drawers. This delightful antique chest of drawers has been given new life with a recent black painted finish. Note in the photos the slight distressing which compliments its age and brings out touches of the natural oak wood beneath. The graceful cabriolet feet, paneled sides, serpentine front and lower carved medallion all reflect its French country styling.
