About the Item
Antique Country French Commode ~ Chest of Drawers represents a nice departure from dark-stained woods, having been finished with a natural look that has achieved a lovely patina over the last century! The solid oak construction includes a plank top with framework that is double-beveled all around, and designed with a subtle bowed front to match the contour of the casework below. Two full width drawers provide ample storage in style, with carved recessed panels framing the brass bale pulls and finely detailed key guards at the centers. Below the drawers, a majestic foliate flourish flanked by wildflowers is carved at the center of a deeply and boldly scrolled apron which is connected to the rounded cornerposts that are one piece from the top to the floor, rounded and subtly scrolled then tipped with escargot feet. Even the back legs were made in the same fashion, which, when combined with the arched, chamfered side panels, make this beauty attractive from any angle! Note the handcrafted pegged mortise
tenon joinery evident througout the design, even on the solid plank back side!
