About the Item

Antique French Chinoiserie Black Lacquer Bombe Commode showcases the French adaptation of what was then termed the Style Oriental in a brilliant effort to duplicate the majesty of the exotic Far East which was the rage. The hand-painted scenery on the black lacquer backdrop is a panoramic view of an opulent moonlit landscape, with continuations on each side totaling three original artworks. The bombe form creates a curved surface that is visually appealing, protected in the front by cast brass trim that extends from the marble to the floor. Cast brass drawer pulls add a nice touch, as does the luxuriously veined marble top that is beveled and contoured to follow the casework form below.
