About the Item
Antique French Commode commonly referred to as a Pantalonnière, which simply means trousers. The concept of a Pantalonnière Commode was that it enabled you to lay out your cloths without getting them wrinkled. We are estimating that this Antique French Commode is more than 300-years old and all we can’t figure out is whether the Commode was made in the late 1600’s or early 1700’s. Because of the Commode’s extreme age, you will notice separation between boards due to natural shrinkage of the French Oak and Walnut and the lower drawer front is warped. Our inhouse restoration department decided to leave it as found and not to turn it into some extensive renovation, but rather enjoy the beautiful natural patina that comes with age.
