Antique French Commode / Chest of Drawers in Walnut Early 19th Century
A rare and striking walnut commode from Eastern France featuring a small bank of drawers to the top surface.
This tiered commode (commode à gradin) is constructed in solid walnut with contrasting boxwood inlay decorating the fronts of all the drawers and flanking the front sides.
All the drawer handles and escutcheons with decorative bows (Louis XVI Style) are cast in bronze.
The walnut has a warm, lovely aged, mellow colour / patina.
A key is supplied to open the top drawers. The larger drawers still have their original locks but no keys.
Some of the drawers have been re-run to enable smooth opening and closing.

- Condition:Replacements made: Some of the drawers have been re-run in our workshops to enable smooth opening and closing. Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. This characterful piece is in good condition and shows some aged-related marks and old restoration in keeping with its age. Minor signs of historic worm have been inspected in our workshop and are long since gone from the piece. It has been re-waxed.
