About the Item

A handsome mid-19th century Sheraton cookie-corner four drawer chest in mahogany, showing the lingering classical tendencies of the late Federal and Sheraton periods as they transitioned into the Victorian era. The case is distinguished by the characteristic incurved “cookie corner” top, reeded corner stiles, and elegant turned legs that lift the case lightly from the ground. The rich mahogany fronts display attractive figured grain and retain an inviting, warm patina that has developed beautifully over time. The chest features four graduated drawers with oval brass pulls and brass escutcheons that complement the refined linear geometry of the case. The drawer blades and case framing exhibit the crisp proportions and visual restraint associated with Sheraton design, while the shaped apron adds a subtle flourish along the bottom edge. Its scale makes it an ideal bedroom or hall piece, adding both function and classical presence without overwhelming a space. In nice antique condition consistent with age and normal use, with expected light surface marks and a warm patina to the mahogany surfaces. The top shows some typical wear and light finish variation from use over generations, and the case presents well overall with a pleasing and authentic antique appearance.
