About the Item

This is a large antique Victorian oak country house entrance hall stand, by the world renowned cabinet maker Edwards Roberts, Circa 1890 in date. It is made of beautiful solid oak and has a sriking gray-black granite plateau above a single frieze drawer flanked by walking stick and umbrella provisions. The drawer bears the impressed stamp of Edwards Roberts, and is also stamped S H Jewell, the retailer. It is a stylish yet very practical item which would look lovely in any hall. Edwards Roberts The firm Edwards Roberts was one of the best English antique furniture cabinet makers of the second half of the eighteenth century. The company was founded in 1845 and by 1854 was trading as ‘Edwards Roberts’, 21 Wardour Street, Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture’. By 1892 they occupied more than a dozen buildings in Wardour Street, where they continued to trade until the end of the century. Our reference: A3632
