About the Item
An Italian elaborately carved walnut commode from the early 18th century. This antique chest from Italy has been adorn with wonderful carvings throughout- from the egg-n-dart trim moldings to the "flanked" wings which protrude outward from each front side post in a scrolled volute motif. The three nicely-sized, dove-tailed drawers have fabulously hand-carved fronts and are each fitted with a pair of three-dimensional putti that are used as pulls. The chest is presented on rail side legs with open skirt along bottom front carved in scrolling volutes. The walnut wood has a lovely old patina; a reflection of the history and age of this piece. Please note that there have been some prior repairs to this piece, that a back board has been replaced, and that someone has numbered the drawer sides (at interior) so that the order can be identified (see images for further detail). This early 18th century Italian carved walnut commode, in addition to a bedroom chest, would make a handsome foyer piece, perhaps adorn with a few decorative objects and one of our lovely mirrors hanging above.
