About the Item

Bring timeless French elegance into your home with this exquisite antique bombe commode. Crafted in France circa 1920, the chest features graceful serpentine lines on all three sides and stands on slender cabriole legs capped with gilt-bronze sabots. Each corner is adorned with finely chased ormolu mounts in foliate and scroll motifs, extending down from the shoulders to the feet for a striking decorative contrast. The two large drawers showcase masterful marquetry craftsmanship with intricate floral inlays set within geometric banding, centered by an oval medallion of floral bouquets. The sinuous apron displays a delicate Louis XVI–style ribbon motif, while the serpentine sides continue the harmonious marquetry design. The drawers are fitted with original gilt-bronze rococo handles and a single key operating both locks simultaneously. The commode is topped with its original thick Rouge Royale marble surface, beautifully veined in shades of plum, rose, and cream, and contoured with a molded edge. The marble has been professionally restored and reinforced from beneath, leaving no visible repairs. This elegant Louis XV–style piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, displaying a rich French polish and deep luster that highlights the beauty of its exotic veneer.
