About the Item

An exceptional example of a hand carved Donald Dunlap two part tiger maple highboy or high chest with a beautifully hand carved cornice with central radial fan below two carved rosettes, basketweave panels that continue onto the sides, with wrapping radial fans rosettes carved on each corner, surmounting an upper chest with five graduated drawers over a lower chest with waist molding, three graduated long drawers, the lower of which repeating another larger radial carved fan, all fitted with batwing brasses, over a scroll carved apron with two additional radial carved fans, all supported by four cabriole legs, terminating with ball claw feet. The highboy is signed on the back of the upper and lower case “Donald A Dunlap, Cabinetmaker, Antrim, NH, 1997”. Donald Dunlap is the last cabinetmaker in the six- generation family of Dunlaps who began making furniture in America in 1765. The highboy is in very good overall condition, with minimal imperfections, and light wear commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: 79 in H x 39 in W x 20 in D. A truly remarkable piece of New Hampshire craftsmanship made in the tradition of the 18th century Dunlaps! Ref: 8
