About the Item

An exquisite and high quality French 19th century Transitional st. Tulipwood, Kingwood, Ormolu and Breche D'Alep marble commode, modeled after Pierre-Antoine Foullet. This exceptional two drawer commode is raised by inlaid cabriole legs decorated by Ormolu chutes and ending with wrap around sabots. The scalloped frieze is finished by an Ormolu band with central acanthus leaves all below the central reserve of the Urn of Prosperity. The two 'Sans Traverse' without a crossbar drawers showcase three oval marquetry inlaid medallions. The central medallion is of two women in a landscape picking flowers while the outer medallions are of bouquets of flowers in urns. The central medallion is flanked by two floral marquetry panels framed within Ormolu bands and outer Ormolu flutes with chandelles, with the Ormolu flutes and chandelles being repeated on the cut angled corners. The two slightly curved sides, with a scalloped frieze, are also decorated by central marquetry medallions of bouquets of flowers. The front and sides of the upper portion of the commode are elegantly decorated with Ormolu designs of rosettes within an intertwined Les entrelaces et les rosaces band. Above lays the original and impressive Breche D'alep marble top with a mottled edge.
