About the Item
A magnificent, solid walnut commode from 19th century France, aligning with Louis XVI and transitional tastes, it is a multipurpose storage piece scaled to use practically anywhere around the home. Note the central plank of the top surface is an astonishing 18” in depth. There is an honest repair of a circular plug to the right side, really more of a beauty mark than a blemish. The case is a very unusual number of two drawers–not the usual three–which are quite deep as a result, using brass bail pull hardware lending functional ornamentation to the piece, complemented by small keyhole escutcheons leaving great swathes of the wood to appreciate for the tones and grain pattern. No key is present. Turned, fluted feet elevate the case from the floor. Cleaned, tightened, and polished with a French paste wax this antique commode is ready to join your interior.
