About the Item
An extremely elegant and high quality French 19th Louis XVI st. mahogany, ormolu and Brèche Violette marble commode. The four drawer chest is raised by fine circular fluted tapered legs below fine ormolu rosettes. The straight frieze displays three recessed panels each framed within fine beaded ormolu bands. Striking architectural circular fluted columns lead up each side and display luxuriant richly chased foliate ormolu mounts. The drawers also display elegant recessed panels framed within ormolu bands with charming Coeur-de-Rai designs. The drawers also display finely detailed pierced foliate ormolu keyhole escutcheons while the top drawer displays a striking richly chased intertwined foliate band. Each side panel displays a fine mottled border framing the beautiful mahogany grain. Above is the original Brèche Violette marble top with a fine mottled border.
