About the Item

An important and high quality French mid 18th century Régence Period Rosewood, Kingwood, Ormolu and Marble commode. This stunning bombee shaped four drawer chest showcases a wonderful and classical Tombeau design while richly decorated with asymmetrical Rococo st. Ormolu mounts retaining all original gilding. Impressive and richly chased Ormolu feet flank the bottom drawer displaying a half round central reserve accented with an Ormolu scrolled and pierced mount. Each drawer showcases stunning quarter veneered designs with bold foliate scrolled Ormolu handles and keyhole escutcheons, while separated by veneered cross bars accented with brass inlaid chutes. The two top drawers are separated by the impressive keyhole escutcheons and flanked by Rococo st. masks and Ormolu mounts leading to the top. Above lays the original and thick Rose Phocéen marble top with a mottled edge and following the shape of the commode.
